Spring Blessings

I like to look back, understand the origins of celebrations… wonder why they only hold a small amount of interest to me. Seems my personal celebrations lean more towards gratitude for another notch on the wheel, together with those who I can call friends and family… feasting and enjoying company with little regard to the consumerism and rituals of the day. Let us eat, drink and be merry together. These days, for a casual web explorer there is a lot of distracting information (who knew!)… Which truth shall we accept? Or are there many truths, just waiting for us to try them on? The April Full Moon has seen many resurrections (see what I did there?) From Pagan, Christian and the newest wave of Wiccan, it’s hard to decipher who did what, when and where… Goddesses named Ostara and Eostre hailing from Germanic and Norse tradition all share the symbols of rebirth and fertility… I suppose the closest the Christian religion could come was the rebirth of Jesus, as this custom is traditionally quiet on the topic of fertility. Indeed, is not the current Easter bunny also just another symbol of fertility? As different as they are, each of these events are centered around the Spring equinox in March and the April Full Moon, and to me, a very Pagan calendar for Christians to follow… So, no matter your point of view we can all agree that the wheel has brought us in the northern hemisphere to a time of awakening and renewed warmth… If you do anything today, I hope it includes planting a positive intention for the coming season. ~Donna Dawkin
