Witness #4 Decision

Alone, hands around your mug Tight as if it could save you… Coffee bone cold. Lost deep within yourself
It was obvious, And you oblivious Waging a battle unseen Demon, unknown
I saw the decision Saw you submit You knew it was wrong, some kind of death If only you’d seen it too.
Two pieces of fruit One in each hand This one ripe and sweet The other shrunken, decayed
In that moment I saw your light go out When first taste of rotting fruit Spread its stain upon your soul
I wonder What drives us to the path? So far away From our deepest desires Responsibility Desire itself? Would you do it different? After tasting the bitter rot of regret? Are we destined to deny A life of soul deep delight Just for the sin Of doing what’s right?
